I know I’m super behind in updating this blog but I figured I’d post some travel highlights from the past year. I travelled to Europe and Asia, flew on some of my favourite airlines, and got in on some excellent mistake fares. Here’s hoping that 2016 is just as fun!
Mike and I went on a $250 mistake fare trip around the world, which started in Milan, Italy (Mostly so that Mike could eat his favourite pizza.) but then we saw this amazing deal at www.thamesdinnercruise.co.uk to visit Norway in the outstanding Hurtigruten cruise. It was much more than just the Northern Lights, an unbelievable experience!
Ate some amazing vegetarian food in Vienna, Austria.
Took a train to Budapest, Hungary.
Had some Hungarian wines…
…and ate some Hungarian food.
Drank in a ruin pub.
Wandered around Amsterdam.
Amsterdam has cute buildings.
Flew KLM business class to Tokyo.
Hot nuts forever!
Found myself in Tokyo once again.
Ate some delicious Japanese meals.
Did some karaoke (of course).
Took a shinkansen to Morioka, Japan.
Had some ekiben (train bento)!
Saw the famous rock-breaking tree in Morioka. Apparently it’s a national treasure.

Took a shinkansen to Sendai, Japan.
Stayed at the Westin Sendai.

Got in on the awesome American Airlines business class fare mistake. Flew to Beijing, China for $550 in business class and enjoyed it immensely due to the price.

Ate Yunnanese food, my favourite.

Went to the 789 Art Zone to see some art.
Saw some art

Ate dumplings and drank cheap Chinese beer.
Stayed at The Orchid Hotel in Beijing again, which is in a hutong.
Took the fancy new UP Express in Toronto for the first and only time.
Flew Cathay Pacific business class to Singapore.
Enjoyed the free upgrade to a huge suite at the Mandarin Oriental in Singapore.
And a balcony!
Learned how to make Hainanese chicken rice in Singapore.
Went to a hawker centere.
Ate satay at a hawker centre.
Mike flew a flight simulator to Kai Tak airport in Hong Kong.
Went to more hawker centres.
Ate more hawker centre food, including carrot cake (no carrots or cake involved).
Decided to go to the top of the Marina Bay Sands.
Nice view, scary high.
Took a boat around Singapore.
Ate chili crab.
Relaxed at the pool.
Checked out the butterfly garden at Singapore’s Changi Airport.
Spent too many hours at the Singapore Airlines lounge.
Flew Singapore Airlines to Fukuoka, Japan.
Finally tried the Singapore Airlines lobster thermidor.
Ate seafood donburi in Fukuoka.
Went to an owl cafe.
Saw some owls.
Held some owls.
Petted some owls.
Did I mention there were owls?
Tenjin, Fukuoka on Halloween.
Had insane chashu ramen in Fukuoka again.
Flew Asiana business class to Seoul, South Korea.
Asiana is always great.
Had a brief layover in Seoul.
Flew in an Asiana First Suite on an A380 to Hong Kong!

Took the subway from Hong Kong to Shenzhen in mainland China since we have 10-year Chinese visas. How often can you take the subway to another country?

That’s about it for 2015. 10 countries and a lot of flights. Can’t wait for more travel in 2016 — starting with, of course, yet another trip to Japan.
