mini travel adventures

It might seem awfully self-indulgent, but I think I’m beyond being concerned about that by now. I’m going to NYC this weekend for less than 24 hours. You might remember that the flight was free, so why not? The plan is to eat at Shake Shack and… well, that’s about it.

I’m doing the same thing in Las Vegas the following weekend. I’ll probably regret braving LAS* for what amounts to dinner and then coming back home, but oh well. Mini adventures like this make life fun!

* I hate pretty much everything about Las Vegas, even (surprisingly, for me) the airport, LAS. I had a nightmare experience there once many years ago that involved spending the night in the airport. The slot machines in the airport run all night, in case you were interested.

I’m at LAX right now, hanging out in the Maple Leaf Lounge (the only one in the US!) while waiting for my red-eye flight back to Toronto. The LAX MLL is waaaaaaaay smaller than all the ones I’ve been to in Canada, but it’s cute and still has soup. The soup is my favourite part of the lounge; it’s somehow comforting when you’re travelling.

I had an amazing time in LA this weekend. I saw two nights of one of my former favourite bands in the universe, Weezer. I hung out in Santa Monica and sat on the beach. I went shopping, ate delicious tacos, visited the Japanese American Museum in Little Tokyo, and went to the zoo. I don’t really love LA as a city, but it was nice to get away from the cold and the snow in Toronto and be somewhere with sunshine and palm trees.
